A Masai Mara Safari. Masai Mara Game Park Is Certainly The Worlds Most Visited Wildlife Park.
The Maasai Mara game park is arguably Kenya's most famous game park. It is the most popular and most visited game reserve in Kenya.
Literally all types of animals can be observed at the Mara. The reserve is teeming with animals with about 452 varieties recorded here. Hot air balloon safaris are readily available in this park.
The Masai people who reside in the Mara and its surrounding are profoundly independent people who still practice culture and ritual as a vital part of their daily lives. They regard themselves not just as residents of this area but that they are as much a part of the existence of the land as the land is a part of their lives.
Culturally, the Masai seldom hunt and dwelling alongside wildlife in harmony is an important part of their social interests. Lions and Wildebeest have a substantial role in their cultural belief as their own herds of livestock. This distinctive co-existence of man and wildlife makes this Masai land amongst the world's most unique wilderness regions.
Every year the Mara plays host to the world's major natural scene, the Great Wildebeest Migration from the Serengeti. From July to October, the promise of precipitation and fresh life supporting grass in the north brings in in excess of 1.3 million Wildebeest together into a single massive herd. They pour across the border into the Mara, making a breath-taking entry in a surging column of life that extends beyond the horizon.
At the Mara River they mass as a group on the banks before finally plunging forward through the raging waters, causing frenzy as they struggle against swift currents and waiting crocodiles.
The wildebeest bring brand new life to the Mara, not simply through their cycle of renewal of the grasslands, but for the predators that follow the herds.
The Masai Mara has been called the Kingdom of Lions and these majestic and potent hunters dominate these grasslands. Cheetahs are also a regular sight in the Mara, as are Hyena and modest predators such as Jackals.
The Mara is a terrific natural wonder, a place where Masai warriors share the plains with hunting lions, a place of great herds and ageless cycles of life, death and regeneration.
Wildlife move freely in and out of the park and throughout neighboring Masai lands. Outside the boundaries of the reserve, can be found many small camping sites and lodges, some of which provide walking, horse riding and other safari options.
The Loita Hills and the Nguruman hills, both perceived as sacred to the Masai, offer high forest trekking opportunities for the adventurous holidaymaker.
