Tips On How To Rewrite A Screenplay To Make It More Fascinating
Okay, so you're all done with your blockbuster screenplay concerning dangerous vampires in Boston and now it's time to start out pitching that script to managers and also agents in Hollywood. (All of whom have a lot more in common with a vampire than you might realize.)
However before you place that script in an envelope, and think you're done learning how to write a screenplay, below are a few tips to help you rewrite your screenplay to help it become professional, marketable along with the best script it can be.
Tip 1 Don't do anything
I know. You've just typed "fade out" and you're good to go. But I would definitely offer it's best to wait around a month, or at least two weeks, before you start rewriting.
Why? Because you're too close to the material. You'll be centering on the small things-grammar, dialogue-when you should be working on making emotion as well as conflict. So have a break, and put the script in the drawer for a while.
Tip 2 Cut the first 5 pages
But you need those pages, right? They are really essential to setting character as well as setting and...blah blah blah.
I will bet you five bucks you don't need it. Don't believe me...give the script out, without the initially five pages. In case nobody notices, you don't need it. (It's one of the biggest faults writers make when learning how to write a screenplay.)
The simple truth is most writers conduct a lot of "throat clearing" in those opening pages. Get right to the point. (Remember, readers would like to know what's taking place. So permit them to do a little sleuthing.)
Tip 3 Focused Drafts
Rather than rewriting from fade in to fade out, I like to take a pass at the script countless times-but with a very centered intent on each and every rewrite. (It's one among the hardest matters I had to get when learning how to write a screenplay.)
So...maybe I'll perform a rewrite where I center on nothing but spelling. Another...scene description. Possibly another will be pushing conflict. Whilst another takes care of dialogue.
Then I'll do a rewrite for each major character. Probably I'll try to add certain symbolic images subtly.
After doing 10-20 of these-with very clear goals-it can certainly help me stay on track, and make sure I cover everything.
I ensure if you follow these 3 steps, you'll have a tight, concentrated, and much better script. (Even when it's about mutant vampires.)
